About this course

Level 2 Site Carpentry Course in Birmingham. Evening site carpentry classes run at Longbridge Campus, so you can fit study around your existing commitments. The course takes one year part-time. You'll cover the core skills and knowledge carpenters use on site, from setting out and forming structures to installing fixtures and fittings. Adults aged 19 and over go directly onto the Level 2. If your maths and English aren't yet at GCSE Grade 4, you'll study those alongside the course.

Who this course is for

This Level 2 one-year qualification is for you if you are looking to start a career in the construction sector and learn a trade as a carpenter. There are separate classes for 16-18 year olds and for adults. Our construction centres are the perfect place for you to develop your skills and knowledge of the profession. You will benefit from fully equipped workshops with industry standard equipment, and tutors, who have a wealth of industry experience, to help you get to grips with this fast-paced industry. You can focus on either carpentry or bench joinery.

Entry requirements

You'll need to have completed the Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery at Level 1 if you are 16-18.

If you are aged 19+ then you will go direct onto a Level 2.

If you have not achieved your maths and English to GCSE Grade 4, you will study for these alongside this course.

What you will learn

  • You'll learn how to set out and form structural carcassing on site.
  • You'll learn how to install first and second fix carpentry components, including frames, doors, and staircases.
  • You'll develop safe working practices and how to use hand and power tools correctly.
  • You'll learn how to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • You'll understand the properties of timber and timber-based products.
  • You'll learn how to work at height safely and follow site regulations.

How you will learn

You'll learn through practical workshop sessions using industry-standard equipment, supported by classroom-based theory.
