About this course

Free Level 2 Site Carpentry Course in Hereford. Classes run at Herefordshire College, full-time during the day, over one year. This City and Guilds site carpentry qualification builds on Level 1 skills and is delivered in a practical, hands-on format. You'll follow the site carpentry pathway, covering the techniques and knowledge carpenters use on construction sites. Entry requires a minimum of four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and maths, or completion of a related Level 1 qualification with good progress in English and maths.

Who this course is for

Building upon the skills developed at Level 1, this course has two potential pathways, site carpentry or bench joinery. Both are delivered by experienced staff committed to helping individuals to achieve at their highest potential. These courses are challenging and predominantly delivered in a practical format.

Entry requirements

A minimum of four GSCEs at grade 3, including English and maths or successful completion of the Level 1 related qualification and good progress with English and maths. Applicants without suitable practical experience may be advised to commence study at Level 1.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop timber framing and first-fix carpentry techniques used on construction sites.
  • You'll learn how to install floors, partitions, and stud walls.
  • You'll practise second-fix carpentry, including fitting doors, frames, and skirting boards.
  • You'll apply health and safety practices relevant to site work.
  • You'll read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • You'll select and use hand tools and power tools correctly and safely.
  • You'll understand the properties and uses of timber and timber-based materials.

How you will learn

The course is predominantly practical. You'll learn through hands-on workshop sessions at Herefordshire College, working on tasks that reflect real site carpentry work. Teaching is delivered by experienced staff. Assessment includes practical tasks and assignments that test both your skills and your underpinning knowledge of carpentry and construction.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Herefordshire College will confirm anything else you need before you start.
