Free Level 2 Hairdressing Course in Newcastle upon Tyne. Classes run at Trinity Academy Newcastle, full-time during the day. You'll train in a specialist salon environment and complete a work placement in a real salon. The course takes one year and covers the core skills employers expect from a junior hairdresser. Depending on your previous qualifications, it may also include Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English.
Who this course is for
You will gain real experience and knowledge of working in the Hairdressing Industry, you will learn from highly skilled staff in a specialist training environment, the course will involve a work placement in a real Salon environment (length assessed on a individual basis) and an option to progress to our successful pre apprenticeship programme which could lead to gaining an apprenticeship or employment. This course may include Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English depending on previous qualifications.

You'll practise shampooing, conditioning, and scalp treatments.
You'll learn how to style and finish hair using heat and dressing techniques.

You'll develop client consultation skills, including assessing hair condition and agreeing services.
You'll gain experience of working in a salon through a structured work placement.
How you will learn
You'll learn through practical sessions in a specialist training salon, supported by classroom teaching from skilled staff. Assessment is a mix of practical observation, where an assessor watches you carry out services on clients, and written or knowledge-based tasks. Your work placement in a commercial salon also forms part of your learning. If Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English are included, these are assessed separately.
