About this course

Free Level 2 Hairdressing Course in Maidstone. Classes run full-time at MidKent College Maidstone Campus, five days a week during the day. The course takes one year and covers everything you need to work as a hairdresser or stylist. You'll study cutting, colouring, client consultation, health and safety, and how to promote products and services. You'll need four GCSEs at grade 1 or above, including English and maths.

Who this course is for

This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a hairdresser/stylist including the mandatory units which include, working in the hair industry, health and safety, client consultation, shampoo and conditioning hair, cutting womens hair and the art of dressing hair, colouring and lightening hair, display and promote stock and services, crate an image.

You will learn through theory and practical sessions and you will undertake written and practical exams. Working on external clientele to complete your practical assessments

You will need to purchase a uniform which has been selected as the Hairdressing college uniform, this will be available at a discounted price and ordered directly from our uniform partners. You will also need to purchase a black pair of trousers and a pair of black closed in shoes.

All MidKent College students will continue studying English and maths until they are 19, or until they have achieved a Grade C/4. Your study programme will incorporate a work placement of up to 350 hours in a role relevant to your study. All students will have access to a Personal Tutor to support their personal and professional development.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 1 or above, this has to including English and maths at grade 1 or above.

You'll learn through a mix of theory and practical sessions in the classroom and salon. Assessment includes written work and practical assessments where you demonstrate your skills on real clients. Both elements count toward your final qualification.
