About this course

Free Level 2 Hairdressing Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You need to be working in a salon or appropriate environment and aged 19 or over. An initial assessment at the start confirms the right level of support for you. Over around 8 months, you'll build the skills to work as a junior hairdresser or stylist, covering the practical techniques employers expect. This is a free hairdressing course for adults who are already in a salon role and want a recognised hairdressing qualification to show for it.

Our course has been designed to help those working in a salon or appropriate work environment to gain the skills and knowledge for a future successful career. We have a team of highly skilled, passionate experienced Trainers to support and train you throughout the course so that your skills are on point.

Entry requirements

You need to be aged 19 and over and working in a salon or appropriate environment.

You will be assessed at the start of the course to determine the right level of support and learning you need to help you through the course. Our Trainers will check you’re eligible to enrol on the course and support you every step of the way.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop cutting techniques for a range of hair types and styles.
  • You'll learn how to colour and lighten hair safely and effectively.
  • You'll practise blow-drying, setting, and finishing techniques.
  • You'll understand scalp and hair analysis to advise clients.
  • You'll apply health, safety, and hygiene standards in a salon environment.
  • You'll develop client consultation skills to identify what clients want.
  • You'll learn how to use and maintain salon tools and equipment correctly.

How you will learn

You'll learn on the job in your salon or workplace. Training is delivered through practical observation, where assessors watch you carry out tasks with real clients. You'll also complete written or online knowledge assessments to show your understanding. A trainer will visit you at work and support you throughout. Your progress is tracked against the NVQ standards for the full duration of the course.
