About this course

Free Level 2 Diploma Hairdressing Course in Leicester. Classes run at Leicester Hair & Beauty Academy. You'll attend three to four days a week and train in a commercial salon, working with real paying clients from the start. The course covers cutting, colouring, styling, and the technical and client-care skills employers look for. English and maths support is built in if you need it. This level 2 diploma hairdressing course takes 12 months full-time.

Unlike many other training providers and colleges, you will be learning at one of our commercial training salons and working on real paying clients. This will give you invaluable real salon experience alongside building-up your practical and theoretical knowledge so – when the time comes for you to enter the world of work – your CV will stand-out from the crowd who may have no actual salon experience.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. However, if you do not hold a GCSE grade C/4 in English and Maths, we will incorporate English and/or Maths functional skills or GCSEs into your training.

What you will learn

  • You'll cut and style hair using a range of techniques
  • You'll apply temporary, semi-permanent, and permanent colour
  • You'll shampoo, condition, and treat the scalp
  • You'll style and finish hair using heated and non-heated tools
  • You'll consult with clients and adapt services to their needs
  • You'll follow health, safety, and hygiene standards in a salon environment
  • You'll develop customer service skills working with paying clients

How you will learn

You'll learn through hands-on practice in a commercial training salon, working with real clients alongside classroom sessions. Assessment combines practical observations, where assessors watch you carry out salon services, with written or online knowledge tests. You'll build a portfolio of evidence throughout the course. Experienced tutors with industry backgrounds support you one-to-one.
