About this course

Free Level 2 Bricklaying Course in Rugby. Classes run at Rugby College, full-time during the day. You'll build on practical and theory skills from Level 1, covering bricklaying techniques, materials, and construction principles. Maths and English are built into the course; if you already hold GCSE grade C/4 or above in either subject, you won't need to study that element again. The course runs for one year.

Who this course is for

You will cover a mixture of practical and theory work progressing from the skills developed at level 1. Please note maths and English are an integral part of this course. However if you already hold these qualifications at grade C/grade 4 and above then you will be exempt from studying for these qualifications.

What you will learn

  • You'll lay bricks and blocks to industry standards, including corners, junctions, and openings.
  • You'll mix and apply mortar correctly for different applications.
  • You'll read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • You'll work safely on site, following health and safety regulations.
  • You'll understand the properties and uses of bricklaying materials.
  • You'll develop the maths and English skills needed in the construction industry (unless already exempt).

How you will learn

Learning is split between practical sessions in a workshop environment and classroom-based theory. You'll be assessed through a combination of practical tasks, where you demonstrate bricklaying skills to set standards, and written or online tests covering underpinning knowledge. Your progress is assessed throughout the course rather than in a single final exam.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Rugby College will confirm anything else you need before you start.
