Free Level 1 Maths Course in Scarborough. Evening maths classes run at Scarborough Adult Learning and Skills Service, so you can fit study around work or other commitments. The course runs for 10 weeks part-time. You'll build your maths skills and gain a maths qualification without sitting a traditional exam. An initial assessment will confirm this is the right level for you. You must not already hold a Level 1 or higher maths qualification to be eligible.

This course is for people who want to improve their Maths skills and gain a qualification in Maths without having to take an exam.You must not have a current level 1 or higher qualification.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • You'll interpret and use data presented in charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll apply maths to practical, everyday situations.
  • You'll use measurement and calculate with units of length, weight, and capacity.
  • You'll develop your ability to check and solve numerical problems.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom based and run in the evening over 10 weeks. Assessment is portfolio based rather than by exam, so you demonstrate your skills through coursework and practical tasks completed during the course.
