About this course

Free Level 1 Maths Course in Northallerton. Classes run at Richmond Adult Learning and Skills Service, part-time during the day. This is a no-exam route to a maths qualification, so you're assessed through coursework rather than a timed test. To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at

What you will learn

  • You'll use measurements and understand units of length, weight, and capacity.
  • You'll read and interpret charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll solve practical maths problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • You'll handle money calculations and work out costs and change.
  • You'll understand basic ratio and proportion in everyday contexts.

How you will learn

You'll attend classroom sessions at Richmond Adult Learning and Skills Service in Northallerton. Assessment is through coursework and portfolio tasks rather than a formal exam. You'll complete assignments and practical activities during and between sessions. There is no end exam for this course.
