About this course

Free Level 1 Health and Safety within a Construction Environment Course in Manchester. Classes run at Collyhurst Community Skills Centre, full-time during the day. This course is part of an Introduction to Sustainable Construction programme. You must be 19 or over, unemployed, and a resident of the East Midlands Combined County Authority area to be eligible. You'll have an initial assessment before you start. Over 3 weeks, you'll cover the key health and safety knowledge needed to work safely on construction sites. The course is assessed and awarded by Highfield.

What you will learn

  • You'll identify the main health and safety hazards found on construction sites.
  • You'll understand your legal responsibilities as a worker in a construction environment.
  • You'll recognise the importance of risk assessments and how they protect workers.
  • You'll learn how to respond to accidents and emergencies on site.
  • You'll understand the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • You'll explore safe working practices relevant to sustainable construction.

How you will learn

You'll study in a classroom at Collyhurst Community Skills Centre, full-time over 3 weeks. Learning is delivered through tutor-led sessions and group activities. Assessment is through a written test or knowledge-based questions set by Highfield. You'll need to pass the assessment to earn your Award.
