About this course

Free Level 1 Health and Safety within a Construction Environment Course in Manchester. Classes run at Greater Manchester Skills Academy, full-time during the day. This free health and safety within a construction environment course is part of an Introduction to Sustainable Construction programme. You must be aged 19 or over, unemployed, and a resident of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority area. An initial assessment takes place before you start. The course runs over 4 weeks and covers the health and safety knowledge construction employers expect.

Learners will need to be 19+ (as at 31st August 2025) and be unemployed. The programme is delivered in a classroom environment

What you will learn

  • You'll identify the main health and safety hazards found on construction sites.
  • You'll understand your legal responsibilities as a worker in a construction environment.

  • You'll learn how to report accidents, incidents, and near misses correctly.
  • You'll understand the role of personal protective equipment (PPE) and when to use it.
  • You'll explore environmental and sustainability considerations in construction work.

How you will learn

Learning takes place in a classroom at Greater Manchester Skills Academy. You'll take part in tutor-led sessions and group activities covering construction health and safety topics. Assessment is through a written test or short-answer questions set by Highfield. You'll need to pass the assessment to earn your Level 1 Award.
