Free Level 1 Functional Skills English Course in Saint Helens. Classes run at St Helens Adult and Community Learning, with part-time daytime sessions spread over 26 weeks. Before you start the course, you will have to complete an assessment to gauge your level and place you in the correct class. If you are not quite ready for the Functional Skills qualification, we can support you to progress on to this
What you will learn
You'll read and understand different types of texts, including everyday documents and written information.
You'll write clearly for different purposes, such as letters, emails, and short reports.
You'll use grammar, punctuation, and spelling accurately in your writing.
You'll listen to and understand spoken information in everyday situations.
You'll speak clearly and contribute to discussions in familiar contexts.
You'll identify the main points and purpose of texts you read.
How you will learn
You'll learn in a classroom with a tutor and other learners. Sessions cover reading, writing, speaking, and listening through practical tasks and activities. Assessment is through a formal AQA examination, which tests your reading and writing skills. Speaking and listening is assessed separately. Your tutor will prepare you for each part of the assessment throughout the course.
