About this course

Free Level 1 Functional Skills English Course in Stockport. Classes run at Stockport Continuing Education Service, part-time during the day, making it manageable alongside family or other commitments. You'll build reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to a solid Level 1 standard. The course takes around one year to complete. Level 1 Functional Skills English is a recognised step toward Level 2, which is the GCSE English equivalent that many employers ask for. You'll have an initial assessment before you start so the centre can plan your learning at the right level.

Who this course is for

English & Maths Essentials courses are ideal for adult learners, including ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) who are looking to improve their English and maths skills for home, learning and work. These non-accredited bridging courses will support the development of essential vocabulary and language skills, digital literacy, employability and personal skills for progression into Functional Skills. Learners will take part in a range of collaborative projects with their peers as well as working towards an individual plan for skill development. Learners will build a portfolio of evidence and on successful completion will receive an in-house certificate.

At the end of this course learners may progress onto Functional Skills, ESOL Skills for Life or Employability courses at the appropriate level. Please note this courses support the development of your English skills for further learning and not your applications for UK Citizenship.

If you feel you would benefit from additional help you can speak to our Learner Services Co-ordinator during your initial interview or to a member of staff at any time during the course.
