About this course
Free Level 1 Functional Skills English Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You study while you're in a job role, fitting learning around your work. There are no specific entry requirements. You'll have an initial assessment to confirm Level 1 is the right starting point, and your learning will be planned from there. The course covers speaking, listening and communication, reading, and writing. It typically takes 3 months. What you will learn
You'll develop your speaking and listening skills in everyday and work-related situations.
You'll practise communicating clearly in discussions and exchanges.
You'll read and understand a range of texts, including those you encounter at work.
You'll identify the main points and purposes of written material.
You'll write clearly for different purposes and audiences.
You'll use spelling, punctuation, and grammar accurately in your writing.
How you will learn
You learn through work-based activity linked to your job role. Assessment covers three components: speaking, listening and communication; reading; and writing. Each component is assessed separately. Speaking, listening and communication is assessed through observed tasks or discussions. Reading and writing are assessed through set tasks. Your initial assessment and diagnostic results are used to confirm the level is right for you and to plan your learning.
