Free Functional Skills English Level 1 classes in Northallerton. Evening sessions at Skipton Adult Learning & Skills Service let you fit study around your week. The course runs for 18 weeks part-time. You'll strengthen your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to a solid Level 1 standard. What you will learn
You'll read and understand a range of texts, including everyday documents and longer pieces of writing.
You'll write clearly for different purposes, including letters, emails, and short reports.
You'll use spelling, punctuation, and grammar accurately in your writing.
You'll listen to and understand spoken information and instructions.
You'll speak clearly and contribute to discussions in everyday and work-related situations.
You'll identify the main points and purposes of texts and spoken communication.
How you will learn
Classes are delivered face to face at the centre. You'll work through reading, writing, speaking, and listening tasks in the classroom. Assessment is through a formal written exam and a speaking and listening assessment, both set by City and Guilds. You'll have an initial assessment before the course begins to confirm Level 1 is the right starting point for you. The centre will use it to plan your learning.
