About this course

Free Functional Skills English Level 1 Course in Leicester. Classes run at GoLearn! Enderby, part-time during the day over 26 weeks.

The course builds your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Topics link to everyday life and work, so what you practise feels relevant. No formal entry requirements are needed. You'll have an initial assessment to confirm the right starting level for you.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Qualification in English at Level 1, a recognised GCSE English alternative accepted by many employers and colleges.

Who this course is for

The course will help you to develop confidence and skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. The course activities and materials will link to everyday life and work experiences.

Entry Level courses are delivered in a classroom over 25 weeks. You will be entered for the assessments when you are ready. Entry Level assessments take place in class time.

Level 1 and 2 courses are delivered either in a classroom or online over 26 weeks. The speaking and listening and reading exams take place during the 26 week programme and the writing exam is taken after the final session.

All Level 1 and Level 2 learners on classroom and online courses will be required to attend one of our centres to take all exams.

Functional Skills English qualifications are recognised by employers and a Level 2 qualification, is an equivalent skill level to GCSE English.

What you will learn

  • You'll learn to spot the main points in what you read and hear.
  • You'll build accuracy in spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at GoLearn! Enderby, with activities and materials linked to real everyday and work situations. The course is delivered over 26 weeks. You'll sit speaking and listening and reading exams when you're ready. Entry-level assessments take place in class time. Assessment is through a combination of exams and tasks set by Pearson Edexcel.

The centre will provide most materials. GoLearn! Enderby will confirm anything else you need before you start.
