Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • You'll handle money, including calculating costs and giving change.
  • You'll read and use simple fractions and percentages in everyday contexts.
  • You'll measure length, weight, capacity, and temperature using standard units.
  • You'll tell the time and work with dates and simple timetables.
  • You'll read and interpret simple charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll solve straightforward maths problems in real, practical situations.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Richmond Adult Learning and Skills Service, with a tutor guiding each session. Learning is practical and task-based, using everyday maths situations. Assessment is through a written external test set by City and Guilds. You'll complete the test when your tutor confirms you're ready.
