About this course

Free Entry Level 3 Functional Skills Maths in Catterick Garrison. Classes run at Catterick Library & Information Centre, part-time during the day. The course runs for 18 weeks, giving you time to build your maths skills at a manageable pace alongside other commitments. You'll cover number, measure, and data handling at Entry Level 3. This is a free functional skills maths course for adults who don't yet hold an Entry Level 3 maths qualification. You'll sit an assessment at the end.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • You'll handle money and calculate costs in everyday situations.
  • You'll read and use simple fractions and percentages.
  • You'll measure length, weight, capacity, and time.
  • You'll read and interpret simple charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll solve practical maths problems using the skills above.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Catterick Library & Information Centre, working through topics with a tutor. Learning is practical and focused on everyday maths situations. Assessment is by a written test set by City and Guilds. You'll need to pass both a non-calculator and a calculator paper to earn your certificate.
