About this course

Free Entry Level 3 Functional Skills English in Catterick Garrison. Evening classes run at Catterick Library & Information Centre, so you can fit study around work or other commitments. To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll read and understand short texts on familiar topics.
  • You'll write clearly for everyday purposes, including simple forms and messages.
  • You'll spell and punctuate common words correctly.
  • You'll listen and respond in straightforward conversations.
  • You'll speak clearly to communicate information and ideas.
  • You'll identify the main points in spoken and written English.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Catterick Library & Information Centre during evening sessions. The course uses a mix of reading, writing, and speaking activities. Assessment is through a written exam and a speaking and listening assessment set by City and Guilds. Both are completed as part of the course.
