About this course

Free Entry Level 2 Functional Skills Maths in Scarborough. Evening classes run at Scarborough Adult Learning and Skills Service, so you can fit study around work or other commitments. The course runs over 18 weeks part-time and covers the maths skills you use in everyday life and work, from number and fractions to handling data and measuring. You'll have an initial assessment to confirm this is the right level for you. This is a free functional skills maths course for adults aged 19 and over.

This course is for people who want to improve their Maths skills and who currently, do not hold a current Entry Level 2 or higher qualification

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • You'll use simple fractions and recognise what they mean in practical contexts.
  • You'll handle money, including working out costs and giving change.
  • You'll read and use simple charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll measure length, weight, capacity, and time using common units.
  • You'll solve straightforward maths problems in everyday situations.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom based, with a tutor guiding you through each topic. You'll practise maths through exercises and activities in the session. Assessment is by a formal test set by City and Guilds. You'll need to pass the test to earn your certificate. Your tutor will help you prepare for it throughout the course.
