Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, including counting, ordering, and simple calculations.
  • You'll add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers.
  • You'll recognise and use simple fractions and percentages in everyday contexts.
  • You'll read and interpret straightforward tables, charts, and diagrams.
  • You'll use basic measures including length, weight, capacity, and time.
  • You'll handle money and work out simple costs and change.
  • You'll solve straightforward problems using maths in real everyday situations.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at Richmond Adult Learning and Skills Service in Northallerton. Teaching covers number, measure, and data skills through practical tasks and worked examples. Assessment is by a formal written test set by City and Guilds. You'll need to pass the test to earn the qualification. Your tutor will prepare you for the test throughout the course.
