Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll read and understand everyday texts such as signs, notes, and short messages.
  • You'll write simple sentences clearly, using basic punctuation and spelling.
  • You'll listen to and follow short spoken instructions and information.
  • You'll speak clearly enough to be understood in familiar everyday situations.
  • You'll identify the main points from short written and spoken material.
  • You'll complete simple forms and write short personal messages.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom based, with group activities, reading and writing tasks, and speaking and listening practice. Assessment is through tasks set by City and Guilds, covering all four skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. You'll complete these assessments at the centre. Your tutor will track your progress throughout the course.
