About this course

Free Entry Level 2 Functional Skills English in Catterick Garrison. Classes run at Catterick Library & Information Centre, part-time during the day, so you can fit study around other commitments. Over 18 weeks, you'll build your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills at Entry Level 2. This is a free functional skills english course for adults aged 19 and over who don't already hold an Entry Level 2 or higher English qualification. You'll have an initial assessment to confirm this is the right level for you.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

What you will learn

  • You'll read and understand short texts on everyday topics.
  • You'll write simple sentences and short texts clearly and accurately.
  • You'll use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar at Entry Level 2.
  • You'll listen to and follow spoken information in everyday situations.
  • You'll speak clearly to share information and respond to questions.
  • You'll complete forms and write notes for practical, real-life purposes.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Catterick Library & Information Centre. Teaching covers reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Assessment is through tasks and activities set by City and Guilds. You'll be assessed on written work and spoken communication. There is no formal exam in the traditional sense; assessment tasks are completed as part of the course.
