Free Entry Level 1 Maths Course in Scarborough. Evening classes run at Scarborough Adult Learning and Skills Service, so you can fit study around your day. You must be 19 or over as at 31 August in the current academic year, and you must not already hold an Entry Level 1 or higher maths qualification.

Who this course is for

This course is for people who want to improve their Maths skills and gain a qualification in Maths without having to take an exam.You must not have a current Entry 1 level or higher qualification.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at

What you will learn

  • You'll work with whole numbers, including counting, ordering, and simple calculations.
  • You'll handle basic addition and subtraction in everyday contexts.
  • You'll read and write numbers used in daily life.
  • You'll recognise simple shapes and understand basic measures such as length and weight.
  • You'll handle money and work out straightforward amounts.
  • You'll read simple charts, tables, or data presented in everyday situations.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom based and part-time, running in the evening. You'll build your maths skills through practical activities and exercises in class. Assessment is portfolio based rather than a formal exam, so you demonstrate your skills through the work you complete during the course.
