BA Animation Course in Newhaven. Classes run at Newhaven Marine Workshop Campus, full-time over 30 weeks per year across three years.

You'll study the core principles of animation through practical workshops and lectures. The course covers hand-drawn and digital 2D animation, stop motion, and 3D modelling and rigging. You'll also explore pre-production planning, storyboarding, character design, film editing, and compositing. In the final year, you complete a dissertation and a self-initiated project, with your work screened at an end-of-year event.

Entry requires a Merit on a Level 3 Animation and Illustration course. You'll graduate with a BA (Hons) in Animation.

What you will learn

  • You'll apply the fundamental principles of animation through practical workshops.
  • You'll create hand-drawn and digital 2D animation.
  • You'll produce stop motion animation projects.
  • You'll build 3D models and learn rigging techniques using CGI software.
  • You'll develop pre-production skills including storyboarding, narrative planning, and character and set design.
  • You'll edit film and sound and work with compositing techniques.
  • You'll blend live-action footage with animation.
  • You'll complete a final self-initiated project and dissertation in your third year.

How you will learn

You'll learn through practical workshops, lectures, and talks from industry professionals. Assessment includes assignments, pre-production and production projects, and a final dissertation. In your third year, your work is presented at an end-of-year screening. There are also opportunities to submit work to animation festivals and competitions.
