About this course

Free AAT Level 4 Accounting Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You learn while you work, applying advanced accounting and finance skills in a real job role. The course covers management accounting, financial statements for limited companies, and internal accounting systems. You also choose two specialist units from areas including business tax, personal tax, audit and assurance, and credit management. The course typically takes 12 months to complete. Entry requires AAT Level 3 and five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths. Completing this free AAT accounting qualification makes you eligible for MAAT membership.

This course is for anyone who would like to get into or move on to their career in accounting and finance.

The AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting is final stage of the full Association of Accounting Technicians qualification, and is for anyone who would like to get into or move on to their career in accounting and finance.

If you have related qualifications, a degree or some accounting experience already you may be able to claim exemptions from some elements of the course enabling you to achieve your qualification quicker.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above including English and maths. AAT Level 3.

What you will learn

  • You'll apply advanced management accounting techniques to complex business scenarios.
  • You'll draft and interpret financial statements for limited companies.
  • You'll evaluate and recommend improvements to internal accounting systems and controls.
  • You'll analyse business tax and personal tax obligations (optional specialist unit).
  • You'll assess audit and assurance processes (optional specialist unit).
  • You'll manage cash flow, credit, and debt within an organisation (optional specialist unit).
  • You'll construct and present complex management accounting reports.

How you will learn

You learn on the job, applying your skills in your workplace as you study. Each mandatory unit is assessed by a computer-based exam set by AAT. The three mandatory units are Applied Management Accounting, Drafting and Interpreting Financial Statements, and Internal Accounting Systems and Controls. Your two chosen specialist units are also assessed by AAT exams. There are no coursework portfolios for this qualification.
