About this course

Entry Level 1 ESOL Skills for Life: Writing course in Havering. Classes run at The Brittons Academy, part-time during the day, so you can fit study around other commitments. This is an entry level esol skills for life: writing course for adults who are learning English as a second language and want to develop basic writing skills in English. The course runs for 13 weeks. Before you start, you'll have an initial assessment with an ESOL teacher to confirm this is the right level for you. If you've already passed any ESOL qualifications, bring your certificate along. City and Guilds Entry Level 1 Award in ESOL Skills for Life (Writing) with certificate.

Who this course is for

Anyone who has completed all units ESOL Pre-Entry or completed Entry Level 1 unit for reading and/or speaking and listening. Any learner who has been evaluated at Entry Level 1 by an ESOL teacher during a PCI session.

Entry requirements

"Before the course, you will be required to sit an initial assessment with an ESOL teacher to determine your current level to ensure the course you attend is the most suitable level for you. If you have previously passed any ESOL qualifications, please bring your certificate with you."

What you will learn

  • You'll write simple words and short sentences in English.
  • You'll use basic punctuation, such as capital letters and full stops.
  • You'll spell common everyday words correctly.
  • You'll write for simple, familiar purposes, such as filling in a form or writing a short message.
  • You'll understand how sentences are structured in written English.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at The Brittons Academy, with an ESOL teacher guiding each session. Learning is practical and hands-on, focused on writing tasks you might use in everyday life. Assessment is through written tasks completed during the course, which show what you can do in English writing at Entry Level 1.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. The Brittons Academy will confirm anything else you need before you start. If you have previously passed any ESOL qualifications, bring your certificate with you to your initial assessment.
