About this course

ESOL Skills for Life: Speaking and Listening Course in Lambeth. Classes run at Morley College London Waterloo Campus, part-time during the day. Fees may apply depending on your circumstances, so check the college website for funding options. You'll take an initial assessment before you start. This places you at the right level and helps plan your learning. The course runs for 6 weeks and covers reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English. Each term focuses on a specific skill, with an exam at the end of that unit.

Who this course is for

You have passed your Speaking and Listening Level 1 exams and/or understand and use English at an intermediate/advanced level. You may not have passed Reading and Writing exams at Level 1 and hence, have not achieved a full Level 1 qualification. In this course, you will develop Reading and Writing skills at Level 1 and Speaking & Listening at Level 2. Each term includes all four skills but focuses on a specific skill for the exam taken in that term. When you pass each unit you will receive a certificate for that particular unit. At the end of Term 1 (September to December), you will take the Reading exams.

Entry requirements

You will take an initial assessment, which will determine your current level of English. You may join this course, if your assessed level is below the standards at Level 1.

  • You'll prepare for unit exams in each of the four English skills.
  • You'll build your ability to communicate clearly in everyday and work situations.

How you will learn

Classes are classroom based and run part-time during the day. You'll study all four skills each term, with a focus on one skill per term for the exam taken that term. Assessment is by unit exam. When you pass each unit, you receive a certificate for that unit. Your initial assessment at the start determines your current level and confirms this is the right course for you.
