This assessment is designed for qualified gas engineers who are looking to expand their scope of work from natural gas to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in permanent dwellings. It focuses on the core competencies required to safely install, commission, service, and maintain LPG appliances in domestic settings. The course covers essential topics such as LPG characteristics, supply pressures, emergency procedures, cylinder safety, and pipework installation. It includes both theoretical and practical assessments to ensure engineers meet the required safety and technical standards.Who is this for? This course is intended for experienced gas operatives who already hold a valid Core Domestic Natural Gas Safety (CCN1) or Core Commercial Gas Safety (COCN1) qualification. It is ideal for those who wish to extend their certification to include LPG work in permanent dwellings. Candidates must also be qualified in the natural gas appliances they intend to convert to LPG. For example, to work on LPG cookers, they must already be certified for natural gas cookers. What’s involved?Participants will undergo a structured assessment that evaluates their understanding and practical skills in key areas such as LPG system design, emergency isolation procedures, installation of pipework and fittings, and tightness testing. The course typically lasts 2 to 2.5 days, depending on whether it is an initial assessment or a reassessment. Successful completion leads to certification that enables operatives to legally and safely work with LPG in permanent dwellings.
