About this course

Level 4 IQA Course in Edinburgh. Classes run at Dreghorn Barracks, daytime with flexible study over 12 months. This City and Guilds IQA qualification is for people who assess others in a work-based or training setting and want to move into an internal quality assurance role. You'll learn how to monitor and standardise assessment practice across a team. You need to be 19 or over, and you should hold or be working toward a Level 3 NVQ, or have relevant experience in the subject you assess.

Who this course is for

This is an introductory course for people who are skilled and qualified in a work related area and want to learn to teach or train others. Known as a 'Gateway' course, it won't equip you to be a fully qualified teacher or trainer, but it is the first step to accessing higher level courses that will do so.

Entry requirements

You need to be 19 years or over. You should have achieved or be aiming to achieve a qualification at NVQ level 3 and/or have experience in the subject/skill you wish to teach.

What you will learn

  • You'll understand the principles and requirements of internal quality assurance in a training or assessment context.
  • You'll plan and carry out internal quality assurance of assessment practice.
  • You'll evaluate the quality and consistency of assessment decisions made by others.
  • You'll support and advise assessors to improve their practice.
  • You'll maintain accurate records of internal quality assurance activity.
  • You'll understand how to manage risks to the quality of assessment.

How you will learn

You'll attend daytime classes at Dreghorn Barracks, with flexible study to fit around your work commitments. Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence drawn from your own quality assurance practice in the workplace. You'll gather observations, records, and written reflections to demonstrate your competence as an internal quality assurer.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Dreghorn Barracks will confirm anything else you need before you start.
