About this course

Level 4 IQA Course in Colchester. Classes run at Merville Barracks, daytime and flexible over 12 months. This City and Guilds level 4 iqa qualification is for people who are skilled or qualified in a work-related area and want to move into quality assurance roles. You'll learn how to monitor and quality-assure assessment processes and practice within your sector. You need to be 19 or over, and you should hold or be working toward a Level 3 NVQ, or have relevant experience in the subject you want to assess.

Who this course is for

This is an introductory course for people who are skilled and qualified in a work related area and want to learn to teach or train others. Known as a 'Gateway' course, it won't equip you to be a fully qualified teacher or trainer, but it is the first step to accessing higher level courses that will do so.

Entry requirements

You need to be 19 years or over. You should have achieved or be aiming to achieve a qualification at NVQ level 3 and/or have experience in the subject/skill you wish to teach.

What you will learn

  • You'll understand the principles and practices of internal quality assurance.
  • You'll learn how to plan and monitor assessment within your organisation.
  • You'll develop skills to evaluate the quality of assessors' decisions.
  • You'll practise giving feedback to assessors to improve their practice.
  • You'll learn how to maintain accurate records of quality assurance activity.
  • You'll understand how to manage risks to the quality of assessment.

How you will learn

Classes are delivered face to face at Merville Barracks. You'll be assessed through a combination of written assignments, observations of your quality assurance practice, and a portfolio of evidence. Assessment is designed to show that you can apply internal quality assurance in a real work context.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Merville Barracks will confirm anything else you need before you start.
