Where next

Jobs you could do

  • Manufacturing engineer: design and improve production processes and systems.
  • Mechanical engineer: develop and test products, components, and systems.
  • Production engineer: oversee manufacturing operations and efficiency.
  • Design engineer: create technical solutions across engineering sectors.
  • Quality engineer: ensure products meet technical and safety standards.
  • Process improvement engineer: analyse and optimise manufacturing workflows.
  • Engineering project coordinator: manage timelines, teams, and technical delivery.

What you could study next

  • HND in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering (Level 5): a natural next step that builds on your HNC and can lead to a full bachelor's degree with a further top-up year.
  • BEng (Hons) Engineering (Level 6): a full honours degree, often available as a one-year top-up for HND holders, recognised by professional engineering institutions.
  • Chartered Engineer status: a longer-term goal through bodies such as the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), building on your Level 4 foundation.
