Entry requirements

A minimum of 48 UCAS points (excluding Functional Skills) in an appropriate discipline: DD from A levels to include mathematics and a technology, engineering or science-based subject; PPP from Extended Diploma, MP from Diploma, MM from 90 Credit Diploma in appropriate Engineering discipline; Mathematics GCSE at Grade B/5 or above and English Language GCSE at grade C/4 or above.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop core engineering knowledge applicable across multiple industry sectors.
  • You'll study the theoretical principles underpinning engineering design and practice.
  • You'll apply practical skills to real engineering problems and scenarios.
  • You'll build technical understanding to support progression into higher-level roles or further study.
  • You'll analyse engineering systems and processes at a higher technical level.

How you will learn

You'll attend classroom-based sessions at Bispham Campus during the day. Learning combines taught theory with practical application. Assessment is through assignments and project work, as is standard for Pearson Edexcel BTEC Higher Nationals at Level 4. What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Bispham Campus will confirm anything else you need before you start.

Where next

Jobs you could do

  • Engineering technician. Technical support role across manufacturing or infrastructure.
  • Mechanical engineering technician. Hands-on work with machinery and mechanical systems.
  • Electrical engineering technician. Supporting electrical design, installation, or maintenance.
  • Design technician. Assisting engineers with technical drawings and specifications.
  • Production engineer. Overseeing manufacturing processes and quality control.
  • Maintenance engineer. Keeping plant, equipment, or systems running safely.

What you could study next

  • Level 5 HND in Engineering (Pearson Edexcel). The natural next step after the HNC, covering more advanced engineering topics.
  • BEng (Hons) Engineering degree. Many universities accept HNC/HND holders onto Year 2 or Year 3 entry, shortening the time to a full degree.
