About this course

Level 4 Advanced Childcare Practice and Management Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You train while you work, building management skills alongside your existing childcare practice. Learners aged 19 or over may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover fees, which you only repay once your income is over £27,295 a year. To start, you'll need a full and relevant Level 3 childcare qualification and to be working, volunteering, or on placement in a childcare setting. The course takes around 15 months. It covers advanced practice and management skills for practitioners ready to take on new responsibilities.

Who this course is for

This qualification is aimed at all practitioners working in the childcare workforce at Level 3, such as childminders, nursery practitioners, preschool practitioners, out of school/holiday provision workers.

The qualification provides practitioners with the opportunity to upskill, and develop management skills so that they can take on new roles and responsibilities.

Entry requirements

The entry requirements for this qualification are that learners hold a 'full and relevant' level 3 qualification in Childcare and have a good standard of literacy and numeracy.

Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as they need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop management skills to take on new responsibilities in a childcare setting.
  • You'll deepen your understanding of advanced childcare practice.
  • You'll learn how to lead and support other practitioners in your team.
  • You'll apply your knowledge directly in your workplace as you study.
  • You'll build skills relevant to managing or coordinating early years provision.

How you will learn

This is a work-based qualification. You demonstrate competence in both knowledge and practical skills through your day-to-day role. Assessment covers what you know and what you can do in a real working environment. You will need to be in a childcare role, volunteering placement, or practical placement for the duration of the course.
