Level 3 Counselling Course in Leyland. Classes run at Runshaw College, part-time during the day, over 17 weeks. If you're an adult without a full Level 3 qualification already, the government may cover your fees. If you're funding it yourself, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available to help with costs. This level 3 counselling qualification builds on previous counselling skills training. You'll deepen your understanding of counselling theories and practise your skills in a structured setting. Entry requires 90 hours of prior counselling skills training and an interview.
Who this course is for
Adults (19+). This course is suitable for you if you have already completed a level 2 counselling course, have some counselling experience and want to develop your skills. This course provides learning experiences which will enable you to develop and practice counselling skills. It will also increase your knowledge/understanding of such skills and look at counselling theories in more depth. It is specifically designed for those who want to take the next step towards training to become a counsellor (having already acquired some counselling skills), or continue their skills development for voluntary work or employment. This level does not qualify you to be a counsellor.
Entry requirements
You should have previously undertaken 90 hours of counselling skills training, eg by completing the CPCAB Counselling Skills Level 2 Certificate. You will also need to have an interview to assess your eligibility for the course. You will need to be able to demonstrate their ability to handle the level of academic work required and show willingness to take responsibility for oneself. You must be able to respect others regardless of race, ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
What you will learn
You'll develop and practise core counselling skills in a structured learning environment.
You'll study counselling theories in greater depth.
You'll reflect on your own practice and take responsibility for your personal development.
You'll explore ethical frameworks relevant to counselling work.
You'll build your understanding of the counsellor-client relationship.
You'll demonstrate respect for diversity, including differences in background, gender, and identity.
How you will learn
Classes are classroom-based and run part-time during the day. Learning is interactive and skills-focused, with opportunities to practise counselling techniques. You'll also engage with theoretical content and reflective work. Assessment methods will be confirmed by Runshaw College, but typically include written assignments and practical skills demonstration in line with the qualification requirements.
