About this course

Level 3 Counselling Course in Leyland. Evening counselling classes run at Runshaw College, part-time over 30 weeks. The course is free for adults who don't already hold a full Level 3 qualification. If you do, fees may apply, though an Advanced Learner Loan may be available to help cover costs. This level 3 counselling qualification builds on previous counselling skills training. You'll deepen your understanding of counselling theories and practise core skills in more depth. Entry requires 90 hours of prior counselling skills training and an interview.

Who this course is for

Adults (19+). This course is suitable for you if you have already completed a level 2 counselling course, have some counselling experience and want to develop your skills. This course provides learning experiences which will enable you to develop and practice counselling skills. It will also increase your knowledge/understanding of such skills and look at counselling theories in more depth. It is specifically designed for those who want to take the next step towards training to become a counsellor (having already acquired some counselling skills), or continue their skills development for voluntary work or employment. This level does not qualify you to be a counsellor.

Entry requirements

You should have previously undertaken 90 hours of counselling skills training, eg by completing the CPCAB Counselling Skills Level 2 Certificate. You will also need to have an interview to assess your eligibility for the course. You will need to be able to demonstrate their ability to handle the level of academic work required and show willingness to take responsibility for oneself. You must be able to respect others regardless of race, ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop and practise counselling skills to a higher level.
  • You'll explore counselling theories in greater depth.
  • You'll reflect on your own values, attitudes, and self-awareness as a practitioner.
  • You'll examine ethical frameworks relevant to counselling practice.
  • You'll build understanding of how to support clients through a range of issues.
  • You'll develop skills in self-reflection and personal development.

How you will learn

Classes are delivered face-to-face at Runshaw College on evenings. Learning combines taught sessions, group discussion, and skills practice. Assessment includes written assignments and reflective work. You'll also be expected to take responsibility for your own learning and personal development throughout the course.
