About this course

Level 3 Art and Design Course in Poole. Classes run at Bournemouth and Poole College of Further Education, full-time over two years. In the first year, you'll explore Fine Art, Photography, Graphics, Fashion and Textiles across a broad range of art and design classes. In the second year, you'll develop a specialist focus and build the skills to support a career in the creative industries. Subjects include Illustration, Ceramics, Textile Surface Pattern Design, and Fashion Communication. You'll need a minimum of five GCSEs including English and Maths at grades 4 to 9, plus a portfolio of current artwork.

Who this course is for

Our Art and Design department is a vibrant and exciting place for students to start their creative career. The UAL Level 3 Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design & Communication is a qualification for post-16 students looking to pursue a specialist career in the creative industries. This is a two-year course: in the first year, students will gain a broad knowledge and practice across all areas of Art and Design including, Fine Art, Photography, Graphics, Fashion and Textiles. The second year further develops a student's knowledge of the creative industries, allowing them to explore and select a specialist practice focus, and develop skills and knowledge central to supporting and sustaining an individualised specialist creative career. Along with live projects that give students the real-life experience of meeting a creative brief all students will have the opportunity to go on national and local trips Some of our recent trips have included London, The Tate Modern, Design Museum, and The Victoria & Albert Museum and residential trips to Lisbon, Bath and Penzance. We attract a wide range of students with different cultural backgrounds and needs adding to our all-inclusive and diverse learning environment. We encourage our students to have a creative mindset through taking risks, problem-solving, critical thinking, ownership and collaboration resulting in our students producing work of a high standard and the confidence and motivation to move forward in their career.

Entry requirements

You will require a minimum of 5 GCSEs including English and Maths Grades 9-4 (formerly Grades A*-C), preferably including a creative subject.

We would also require a portfolio of current artwork. This could be examples of drawings, paintings, sculpture, photography, textiles, design etc...

What you will learn

  • You'll practise Illustration, Model Making and Ceramics.
  • You'll study Textile Surface Pattern Design and garment cutting.
  • You'll explore Fashion Communication and Creative Marketing.
  • You'll develop critical thinking, problem-solving and collaborative working skills.

How you will learn

You'll learn through studio-based practical work, live project briefs, and critical and contextual study. Assessment is through a portfolio of creative work built up over the two years, alongside project outcomes and written or reflective elements. You'll also take part in national and local trips, including visits to galleries and design museums, which form part of your broader creative development.

You'll need a portfolio of current artwork to apply. This can include drawings, paintings, sculpture, photography, textiles, design work, or any other creative examples. Bournemouth and Poole College of Further Education will confirm any materials or equipment you need before you start.
