Entry requirements

We recommend as a minimum you have a level 2 English qualification. If not you will be advised to study Functional Skills English. It may be advisable for you to do GCSE mathematics and English if you do not have these qualifications at C grade or above as an additional qualification, particularly if you are considering a career in midwifery.

On the day of interview you will undertake maths and English assessments to assess your eligibility for the programme.

You must be over the age of 19.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop scientific knowledge relevant to health professions, including biology and human physiology.
  • You'll build academic writing and research skills for university-level study.
  • You'll study health and social care concepts and how they apply in practice.
  • You'll practise data handling and numeracy skills used in health settings.
  • You'll explore the structure of the NHS and health professions within it.
  • You'll learn how to reference sources and construct evidence-based arguments.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions at Darlington College, with tutor-led teaching and group work. Assessment is through written assignments, essays, and presentations rather than formal exams. You'll build a portfolio of work across the year. On the day of interview, you'll complete maths and English assessments to confirm you're ready for the programme.

What you will need to bring
