About this course

Level 2 Women's Hairdressing Course in Bristol. Classes run at SGS College Filton Campus, full-time during the day. This women's hairdressing qualification is 408 hours of focused study, covering the core skills employers look for in a salon. Fees apply for all learners. Students aged 16 to 18 years old pay a significantly reduced fee, and concessions may be available if you are 19 or over. You'll cover cutting, colouring, styling, and salon services, building the practical skills you need to work as a hairdresser.

Who this course is for

Most full-time courses at SGS are for learners aged 16-18 with some provision available for those aged 14 plus on request. If you are aged 19 and over then formal qualifications that are a prerequisite for younger age groups may not be suitable. Please check the college website www.sgscol.ac.uk for more in-depth information regarding full-time study programmes or contact us on 0800 0567 253 or email [email protected]

What you will learn

  • You'll cut women's hair using a range of techniques, including graduation and layering.
  • You'll colour and lighten hair, including tinting and highlighting services.
  • You'll style and finish hair using blow-drying, setting, and dressing techniques.
  • You'll shampoo, condition, and treat the scalp and hair.
  • You'll consult with clients to identify their needs and recommend services.
  • You'll follow health, safety, and hygiene standards in a salon environment.

How you will learn

You'll learn through practical, hands-on sessions in a salon training environment, alongside classroom-based theory. Assessment combines practical observations, where an assessor watches you carry out services, with written or online tests covering the underpinning knowledge. You'll build a portfolio of evidence as you progress through the course.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. SGS College Filton Campus will confirm anything else you need before you start.
