About this course

Level 2 The Children and Young People's Workforce Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You train on the job, in a childcare setting, while earning. The course runs over 13 months and builds the knowledge and skills you need to work with children and young people in a supporting role. You'll work toward the City and Guilds Level 2 The Children and Young People's Workforce Qualification alongside Functional Skills in maths and English. To enrol, you need to be working in a childcare setting for 16 to 30 hours per week.

Who this course is for

Childcare Intermediate Apprenticeships allow individuals to work for an employer, learn on the job, build knowledge and skills to gain a level 2 qualification, whilst earning money at the same time.

Level 2 will suit you if you work, or are about to work, in a supporting role as a nursery assistant, Crèche worker or special educational needs assistant. You want to work with children, but you’ll generally work under supervision. These bespoke qualifications will provide the fundamental skills needed to enter or sustain employment in this area, instilling learners with the confidence and drive to achieve continued personal and professional progression.

Providing important recognition, these qualifications encourage learners to unleash their talents, through further vocational training or in their field of work, the next natural progression would be the Early Years Practitioner (EYE) Diploma at Level 3. However, if learners do not already hold GCSE Grade A-C in Maths and English then they will need to do these before progressing onto the level 3 Diploma.

Entry requirements

Employment within a Childcare setting working 16-30 hours per week. No GCSE's are needed as Functional Skills will be worked on during the course, however if a learner wishes to progress to a level 3 then they will require GCSE's Maths and English before beginning.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop knowledge of child development and how to support children's learning.
