About this course

Level 2 NVQ Passive Fire Protection Course. Work-based training at your workplace.

You train on the job, building skills in passive fire protection while you work. Fees apply for most learners, though funded routes may be available. Contact UK Skills Academy to find out what you qualify for. The course takes around six months and covers the installation and maintenance of passive fire protection systems in construction settings. You'll need at least five years of relevant experience to enrol.

You'll finish with an NVQ Diploma in Associated Industrial Services Occupations, Passive Fire Protection at Level 2.

What you will learn

  • You'll identify and apply passive fire protection materials and systems correctly.
  • You'll interpret construction drawings and specifications for fire protection work.
  • You'll install fire-stopping products, intumescent seals, and fire-resistant barriers.
  • You'll work safely and in compliance with fire protection regulations on site.
  • You'll inspect completed passive fire protection work to confirm it meets standards.
  • You'll maintain records and documentation for fire protection installations.

How you will learn

This is a work-based NVQ, so assessment takes place in your workplace. An assessor will observe you carrying out passive fire protection tasks on site. You'll also build a portfolio of evidence showing your competence across the qualification's units. There are no written exams. Assessment is ongoing throughout the six months, fitted around your work.
