The knowledge you will gain from undertaking this qualification, alongside the practical experience you will be accumulating through employment or work experience, will enable you to do your job more effectively and boost your career prospects.

Entry requirements

There are no formal academic entry requirements. However you must be either employed (or volunteering) in a suitable horse care environment, such as a riding school, horse charity or racing yard.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop practical horse care skills in a real working environment.
  • You'll learn how to manage horse health, welfare, and daily routines.
  • You'll understand safe handling and stable management techniques.
  • You'll build knowledge of equine nutrition and feeding practices.
  • You'll study horse behaviour and how to recognise signs of illness or distress.
  • You'll explore a specialist pathway tailored to your job role and career goals.

How you will learn

All tuition is delivered online. You are supported by a personal tutor who assesses your work and gives feedback. Your tutor stays in regular contact by email, phone, and Microsoft Teams. They will also visit your workplace three times during the course. Assessment is based on your practical work in your horse care role, combined with the knowledge you build through your online study.
