Level 2 Hairdressing Course in Lancaster. Classes run full-time at Lancaster and Morecambe College, five days a week during the day. You'll train in professional, modern salon facilities and work with members of the public to build practical experience. The course runs for one year and covers the skills and techniques needed to work in a salon. It includes maths and English where applicable, plus work experience and employability activities. Entry requires 3 GCSEs at grade A* to D, or a related Level 1 qualification, plus English or maths at grade 3/D or above.
Who this course is for
This course is designed for 16-18 year old and adult learners the course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers. For 16-18 year old will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience.
Entry requirements
3 GCSEs at grade A*-D OR a Level 1 related qualification. Plus English or maths at grade 3/D or higher.
Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.
What you will learn
You'll learn cutting techniques for a range of hair types and styles.
You'll develop colouring and lightening skills, including tints and highlights.
You'll practise blow-drying, setting, and finishing techniques.
You'll learn how to shampoo, condition, and treat the scalp and hair.
You'll develop client consultation skills, including assessing hair condition and agreeing on services.
You'll learn health, safety, and hygiene standards for salon work.
You'll build experience working with members of the public in a salon environment.
How you will learn
You'll learn through hands-on practical sessions in the college's salon facilities, working on real clients alongside classroom-based theory. Assessment is through practical observations, written assignments, and knowledge tests. The study programme for 16 - 18-year-olds includes maths and English (where applicable) and work experience. All learners take part in employability activities, which may include employer encounters and educational trips.
