About this course

Level 2 Computer Course in Bournemouth. Classes run at Kings Park Leisure and Learning Centre, part-time during the day over 12 weeks.

The course builds on existing digital skills and takes them to a higher standard. You'll cover practical IT tasks and build a portfolio of work to show what you can do. An initial assessment helps confirm this is the right level for you. You should already be a competent computer user with some access to a device outside class.

You'll finish with a Gateway Qualifications Award in Digital and IT Skills at Level 2.

Who this course is for

This course is for learners that want to continue to develop their ICT and digital skills to a higher standard, either progressing from Digital Functional Skills Level 1 or identifying as having the necessary ICT skills to jump straight to this level from initial assessment results and discussion.

Learners should be competent computer users with some form of access outside of the classroom. Due to it being a portfolio based course, there will be an emphasis on coursework and some independent work outside the classroom.

What you will learn

  • You'll use common software applications with greater confidence and accuracy.
  • You'll manage files, folders, and digital storage effectively.
  • You'll create and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • You'll communicate and collaborate online using digital tools.
  • You'll stay safe online and understand basic cybersecurity practices.
  • You'll complete a portfolio of work demonstrating your digital skills.

How you will learn

This is a portfolio-based course. You'll complete coursework tasks in the classroom and some work independently outside of class. Assessment is through the portfolio you build up over the 12 weeks, rather than a formal exam. Your tutor will guide you through each task and give feedback on your work.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Kings Park Leisure and Learning Centre will confirm anything else you need before you start. You should have some access to a computer or device outside of class, as the course includes independent work.
