About this course

Level 1 Car Mechanic Course in Blackpool. Classes run at Bispham Campus one full day a week, part-time over 20 weeks. The course is mainly practical, with training in an advanced technology centre. You'll develop the knowledge and skills that underpin motor vehicle maintenance and repair, covering what life as a mechanic or vehicle technician involves day to day. You must be aged 19 or over on or before 30 August to enrol. You should have reasonably good English and maths, though no formal qualifications are required.

Who this course is for

This 18-week Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair course is designed to provide you with an insight into life as a Motor Mechanic or Vehicle Technician and to help you to develop the knowledge and skills required to progress onto higher levels. This Level 1 Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair course is mainly practical, with training taking place in our £10 million Advanced Technology Centre.

Entry requirements

You must be aged at least 19 on or before 30 August and you must be able to attend one full day a week. There are no formal qualification, but you should have reasonably good levels of English and maths. Please note: Where wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is a mandatory requirement of the course, it is the responsibility of the learner to ensure that they are able to wear such equipment.

How you will learn

The course is mainly practical. You'll train in a workshop setting at Bispham Campus, working on real vehicles and equipment. Learning is hands-on, supported by classroom sessions that build the underpinning knowledge for each practical task. Assessment is through practical tasks and knowledge checks that reflect the IMI Certificate in Automotive Maintenance standard.

What you will need to bring

You will need to be able to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) where it is required during practical sessions. This is your responsibility to arrange. Bispham Campus will confirm anything else you need before you start.
