About this course

Free Teaching Assistant Course Level 1 in Scarborough. Classes run at Scarborough Adult Learning and Skills Service, one evening a week over 8 weeks.

The course is free for adults aged 19 or over who meet eligibility criteria. You'll explore what it means to work in a school setting. Topics include supporting pupils, understanding classroom roles, and the responsibilities of school staff. This NCFE Award covers the knowledge you need before stepping into a school environment.

You'll finish with an NCFE Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools.

This qualification is aimed at a range of learners who are thinking of working in a school setting including: young people, mature learners, learners with special educational needs or where English is an additional language.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

How you will learn

Classes are held in the evening at the centre. You'll learn through tutor-led sessions, group discussion, and practical activities. Assessment is through written assignments and short tasks that check your understanding of working in schools. There are no exams.
