About this course

Free Teaching Assistant Course Level 1 in Northallerton. Classes run at Skipton Adult Learning & Skills Service, one evening a week over 8 weeks.

The course is free for learners aged 19 or over who meet the eligibility criteria. You'll explore what it means to work in a school, including how to support pupils, understand classroom roles, and communicate effectively with staff and children.

You'll finish with an NCFE Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools.

This qualification is aimed at a range of learners who are thinking of working in a school setting including: young people, mature learners, learners with special educational needs or where English is an additional language.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August in the current academic year and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom sessions one evening a week. The course uses group discussion, tutor-led activities, and short written tasks. Assessment is through coursework and assignments completed during the course. There is no formal exam.
