About this course

Free Level 5 Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) Course in Birmingham. Evening classes run at South & City College Birmingham Digbeth Campus, so you can fit study around your existing commitments. The course runs over 24 weeks and covers the principles of effective teaching, language analysis, and how adults learn. You'll also complete supervised teaching practice with ESOL classes. It starts in October each year. Applicants must be at least 18, educated to higher education entry standard, and a proficient English user at CEFR high C1 or above.

Who this course is for

This course is for adults who would like to teach English to speakers of other languages (ESOL). It is an introductory course for those who have little or no previous experience of teaching in this subject area. It is also suitable for teachers who are qualified to teach other curriculum areas but wish to gain an ESOL specialism. The Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) course starts in October each year at our Digbeth campus.

Entry requirements

Applicants for the course must be at least 18 years old*, be educated to the standard required for entry into higher education and be a proficient English language user (CEFR level high C1 or above). *It is generally recommended that candidates should be aged 20 or over but candidates aged between 18 and 20 can be accepted at the college�s discretion

How you will learn

You'll study in the classroom at South & City College Birmingham Digbeth Campus on an evening, part-time basis over 24 weeks. Learning includes taught sessions and six hours of supervised teaching practice with ESOL classes at two different ability levels. Assessment is based on your teaching practice and coursework completed throughout the course.
