About this course

Free Level 3 Assessor Course. Work-based training at your workplace. You carry out assessment in your organisation and want a professional qualification to match. You'll study over around 6 months, building evidence from your real assessment practice as you go. To enrol, you need to be employed or have a work placement where you can assess others. You'll also complete a short literacy and numeracy check before you start. This level 3 assessor qualification is awarded by Highfield.

Who this course is for

This qualification is for people working in, or looking to enter into, roles in assessment. The units will provide people who carry out assessment in their organisation with the opportunity to develop and improve their practice as well as achieving a professional qualification for the role.

Entry requirements

Learners need to be employed or have a work placement where they are able to apply the knowledge and generate evidence for this qualification. A basic Literacy & Numeracy assessment will need to be undertaken prior to enrolment to ensure suitability for this programme.

What you will learn

  • You'll learn how to plan and prepare assessment activities for learners in a work environment.
  • You'll develop skills in judging evidence against set standards and making assessment decisions.
  • You'll practise giving clear, constructive feedback to learners after assessment.
  • You'll learn how to record assessment decisions accurately and consistently.
  • You'll understand the legal and ethical responsibilities that come with the assessor role.
  • You'll build a portfolio of evidence drawn from your own assessment practice.

How you will learn

Learning happens in your workplace. You gather evidence from your day-to-day assessment activities and build a portfolio over the course. Assessment is competence-based, meaning you demonstrate what you can do in practice rather than sitting a written exam. An assessor will observe your practice and review your portfolio evidence to confirm you meet the qualification standards.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Pilot IMS will confirm anything else you need before you start.
