At Tameside College, youll continue to learn through interactive lessons, real-world simulations, hands-on projects, virtual tours, destination research challenges and group activities�the kind of learning that mirrors how the industry really works. You chose Travel & Tourism at Tameside for a reason and now you can expect to build on your first year with us building further industry ready skills, attributes and abilities. More guest speakers from aviation organisations, tour operators and hospitality companies will continue to provide information, advice and guidance that you and your supportive tutors can utilise to ensure the �inside track� is yours to occupy. Even more trips and visits to UK destinations and attractions (and occasionally international ones too!) will continue to bring units to life. You will be helped to further develop transferable skills to increase your �employability� quotient.

Once again there are 9 units study, which will all compliment those you enjoyed in your first year and youll complete them all to enhance your continually developing strengths, employability skills and ambitions.

Here at Tameside, examples of 2nd year units you may explore (subject to change) include: Aviation Communications, Airport Operations and the always important Health, Safety & Security in Aviation. Whichever units you undertake you can be assured of their relevance and importance in supporting you in your quest for a worthwhile and interesting career in travel and tourism.

Entry requirements

Youll typically need:

A successful first year on the �Introductory Diploma in Travel & Tourism� and of course;

  • 4 GCSEs at grade 4+, including maths and/or English, or a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification.
  • A short progression interview to establish your continued interest, enthusiasm and readiness for work placement, and a long-term career.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom lessons, group activities, destination research challenges, and real-world simulations. Assessment is through assignments, projects, and coursework rather than formal exams. Work placement forms part of the course, giving you direct experience in a travel or tourism setting.
